Life Outside Atlanta?

Image
If you live in the Atlanta area, you know there are two type of people -- the ITPs and OTPs.  Translation: Inside the Perimeter and Outside the Perimeter And basically neither the twain shall meet. Or at least without geographical prejudice. But that is another story... But today I wanted to share something I have discovered OTP -- in fact wayyyyy  OTP. A Lavendar Farm in Georgia theherbgardener.blogspot.com Yes, out in Eatonton.....Eatonton? Well, that is SE of Atlanta in Putnan County. The farm’s name is Ooh La La Lavender Farm . I haven't been but I have read about them on several blogs.  There is a Lavender Festival that they have in June. I am going in to check it out next year. A blogger, Confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com , posted these beautiful pictures on her blog: I just love the smell of Lavender. I will definitely be stocking up on these: A few pictures from their FB page:  I ca...

Kentucky Oaks

Image
It is Spring. It is horse racing season. And today, it is the Kentucky Oaks. This is my favorite race. The Kentucky Oaks is the running of the fillies.  The girls go first. The Longines Kentucky Oaks is considered by some to be among the most popular horse races in American horse-racing society due to its high attendance.  It attracts about 100,000 people in attendance a year. So why is the Kentucky Oaks so fun?  It is very pink. The Survivors Parade is a march of breast cancer survivors.  And everyone wears pink. Andrew Kung Churchill Downs Including the fillies. The Hats are Pink!! Hats from  www.courier-journal.com The parties are pink. I love this one called "Fillies and Lillies." The drinks are pink. Even the winners get pink. History was made in the 138th running when a long shot Believe You Can, ridden by Rosie Napravnik, the first female jockey...

"Tea to See" and Piedmont Driving Club

Image
I just attended a wonderful benefit, called "Tea to See" that benefits  Prevent Blindness Georgia . It was an splendid afternoon with tea, mimosas, tiny tea sandwiches and delicious desserts.  The best part -- it was at the Piedmont Driving Club. Founded in 1887 by prominent Atlanta businessmen, as the Gentleman's Driving Club, it is on the western edge of Piedmont Park and has served Atlantans for many years. I haven't been inside that building in at least 20+ years, so I was looking forward to it. I snagged a few pictures to share with you. Beautiful drawing room off to the right when you first walk in the door.  One of the many beautiful paintings that grace the walls. Love the blue and white. A beautiful sitting area. Steps going up to a dining area. Close up of the beautiful wallpaper. All the rooms have pretty chandeliers. I think this might be the bar. Comfy club chairs and small tables. In this b...

Pioneer Woman Cooks

Image
I was inspired to write this blog entry because of a Facebook post I noticed from my cousin. It was a Ree Drummond receipe and all he said in the post was "Cake." "Cake" the nickname for his significant other. I knew immediately that he was dropping a hint. It made me chuckle. I am sure by now all of you foodies have heard about The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. She is one of my favorite cooks. I discovered her in 2006-07 when I was on a tear about reading blogs about ranch living. We had just been through Wyoming and I was fascinated--a quick google search and she pops up. I bookmarked her and have been following her for years. Her cookbooks read like novels. She has an interesting love story. So how did a self-proclaimed city girl wind up cooking for about 10+ people per day, three meals a day? She used to have the story on her blog, but she has written a new book Black Heals to Tractor Wheels  and now you have to buy it.  Howe...
