What a Difference Paint Can Make, Part II

When we moved to Kate's House, I decided to make the guest bath, the horse bathroom. It is a nice room, but lacked snazz.  It had basic, boring white paint on the walls. What is needed was some color to freshen it. Here are before pictures. Blah. Off to Home Depot I go.  I finally settled on  Martha's Stewart's Beach Sand MSL232. With paint brush in hand, it begins. I am liking it. Here is the finished product. The old bits were found in the various out buildings that came with the house. I just had to use them. I bought this picture years ago for my very first apartment. It proudly hung over the only piece of furniture I had in the living room at that time - a classic white sofa from Rich's. Timeless Toile

I absolutely love toile. If I had my way there would be toile in every room of my house. However, hubby isn’t a big fan, so it is limited to a small upstairs bathroom. Toile fabric comes in so many luscious colors and interesting patterns. One of my husband’s favorite sayings that “paint is cheap.” And for decorating updates and changes, I have to agree. I thought I would share with you our guest bath update. We live in a turn of the century Edwardian and the guest bathroom is located at the end of the hall on the second floor.  This is what you see when you get to the top of the steps and turn around. Ugly, isn’t it? Just plain white, with a nasty old shower door, a shelf over the counter that really didn't add anything. Something had to be done. Something bright and fun. My husband suggested red. Red? For this miniscule bath? Won’t it close it up and make it smaller? I chose Benjamin Moore’s Caliente. I wanted a bluish red instead of an orangey red.  After the first coat, I was almost giddy with the results.
